Fire & Smoke Mitigation Technician (Structural Cleaning / Restoration)
Job Summary
We are hiring a Fire & Smoke Mitigation Technician to perform fire, smoke, and structural cleaning on residential and commercial restoration projects throughout Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, San Benito County, and Santa Clara County. This is a hands-on role for someone dependable, safety-focused, and motivated to help restore properties to clean, safe, and livable conditions.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Perform fire and smoke restoration cleaning, including soot removal from walls, ceilings, floors, framing, and other surfaces
Complete detailed structural cleaning using HEPA vacuuming, wet wiping, and post-restoration detail methods
Clean, sanitize, and deodorize affected areas using approved restoration techniques and products
Set up containment and protection (poly sheeting, tape, floor protection) to prevent cross-contamination
Operate and maintain restoration equipment including HEPA vacuums, air scrubbers, negative air machines, and hand tools
Assist with contents handling, including pack-outs, inventory, cleaning, staging, and re-set as needed
Communicate job progress, site conditions, and scope changes to the supervisor
Take job photos and complete basic documentation (notes, checklists, time tracking)
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite, including end-of-day cleanup
Load and unload equipment; keep tools and company vehicles clean and ready
Provide professional, respectful customer service while working in occupied homes and businesses
Follow all PPE requirements and company safety procedures
Requirements
Experience in restoration, fire/smoke cleaning, mitigation, construction, or industrial cleaning preferred (training available for the right candidate)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work on your feet for extended periods
Comfortable working in restoration environments involving odors, debris, and damaged materials
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required for company vehicle use)
Preferred (Not Required)
IICRC certifications (FSRT, OCT, WRT)
Experience with contents cleaning, pack-outs, deodorization, and HEPA containment
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Pay & Benefits
Pay: $24–26 per hour
Prevailing Wage: Paid on applicable public works and qualifying projects
Emergency / On-Call Pay: Additional compensation for emergency response and after-hours on-call shifts
Schedule: Full-time
Overtime: Paid in accordance with California labor laws
